CMRO2

cerebral metabolic oxygen consumption is approximately 20% of the total body oxygen consumption (total body oxygen consumption is approximately 250 ml O2/min)

therefore 20% of 250 ml O2/min = 50 ml O2/min
-generally speaking CMRO2 = 3 - 3.8 ml O2/100gm/min

Average brain is 1500gm
1500 gm x 3 mlO2/100 gm = 45 ml O2/min
1500 gm x 3.8 mlO2/100 gm= 57 ml O2/min

Therefore the average CMRO2 is nearly 50ml O2/min

Normally:
O2 Demand of the brain: 50 ml O2/min
O2 Supply to the brain : 150 ml O2/min

Of the 50 ml of O2 consumed in CNS
60% of the ATP is used to support the neuroelectrical activity
40% of the ATP is used to support the cellular integrity
