Cerebral Spinal Fluid
-CSF formed by the choroid plexus within the lateral ventricle
-CSF volume ≅ 100 – 150 ml
-CSF reabsorbed and formed ≅ 4 times/day therefore q6hrs
-CSF reabsorption/formation rate ≅ 0.3 – 0.4 ml/min
Drugs which may inhibit the formation of CSF include:
-furosemide
-acetazolamide
Hydrocephalus may occur from:
-increased CSF production
-reduced reabsorption of CSF despite normal production
